Online tuition for Common Core students
The Common Core State Standards set out what a student should be able to do in maths and English language arts at the end of each grade. They describe skills, not a textbook, so two schools teaching the same standard can look quite different. Lessons start from your child’s own classwork and work back to the standard behind it.
This is for students at schools that follow an American curriculum — in the United States, or international schools elsewhere — from grade 1 to grade 12.

Subjects we teach for Common Core (CCSS)
Mathematics
- Grades 1–5: place value, the four operations, fractions and measurement
- Grades 6–8: ratios and proportional reasoning, expressions and equations, an introduction to functions
- High school: algebra, functions, geometry, and statistics and probability
- The Standards for Mathematical Practice — explaining reasoning, not just answers
English language arts
- Reading literature and informational texts closely
- Writing arguments, explanations and narratives
- Citing evidence from a text
- Grammar, vocabulary and conventions
How a lesson runs
Common Core questions often ask a student to show or explain how they know, not only to get the answer. The tutor works through your child’s homework and class tasks with them on the whiteboard, asking them to talk through each step until they can do it on their own.
Every lesson is live on video with a real tutor, in a classroom that opens in the browser on a phone, tablet or laptop. Lessons are never recorded, and learners under 18 need a parent’s permission before their first booking. What parents should know

Starting rates, exclusive of GST; 18% GST is added in addition. Group rates are for classmates from the same school and class. The exact rate for a subject is confirmed on your account before you book, and nothing is charged until a lesson is booked.

No. Share your child’s book, worksheets or online assignments in the lesson and the tutor works from them.
